Aman Villas at Porto Heli, Greece

Amanresort_Aman_Villas_at_Porto_HeliWhat with all the doom and gloom for Greece in the headlines, it’s good to know there’s a beacon of hope on the horizon. The horizon in question is that of the Peloponnese in Greece, where last year Dolphin Capital Investors launched sales of a limited number of spectacular luxury villas attached to the Aman at Porto Heli, scheduled to open in early 2012 and the latest offering from Amanresorts, one of the most innovative luxury hotel companies in the world.

Located on a peninsula with spectacular views of the Argo-Saronic Gulf and surrounded by undulating olive groves, the villas, set on lots of between one and four acres, have been designed by the award-winning architect Edward Tuttle. They are decorated to the top specifications in signature Aman style (with a view to being included in the rental pool), with the latest in five-star facilities. Due to the rolling hillside, each lot offers its own unique view out to sea. All properties offer large terraces next to their private swimming pools, and security and privacy will be paramount. Similar to Cap Ferrat and Mustique, the idea is that owners will enjoy a villa-based social life. Adrian Zecha, the founder of Amanresorts, will also keep a home here (his only other being at Amanpuri, the original Aman resort).

As well as full access to the hotel’s facilities, including its spa and private beach club, owners will also be able to enjoy the stunning car-free islands of Spetses and Hydra, famed for their white-washed houses, sapphire waters and unrivalled beauty and within easy reach by water taxi. These, as well as numerous uninhabited islands, are ideal for sailing excursions and swimming in secluded coves.

Famous for its majestic landscape, Porto Heli has long been a favourite holiday destination for Athenians and European royal families. (The late Greek shipping tycoon Stavros Spyros Niarchos even owns an island in the area.) Its traditional seafront settlement is still home to a local fishing community and authentic tavernas for excellent seafood dining. Meanwhile the region’s lush scenery, sweeping beaches, unspoilt sea views and contingent of well-heeled visitors mean that Porto Heli is set to become a chic and exclusive retreat for people looking for an exquisite holiday residence. In addition to the Aman, Dolphin Capital’s Porto Heli Collection will also include Nikki Beach and Chedhi resorts as well as a golf course.
