TRAVEL: OFF-GRID

AS DEMAND FOR transformational journeys, fitness breaks, shared adventures and wild escapes continue to grow, Shakti Himalaya continue to push the boundaries offering one of their most exhilarating trips this summer. Founded in 2004 by Jamshyd Sethna, whose love of the mountains began during his school days in Darjeeling, the company combines his personal style and love for food and art with his passion for the Himalayas. Creating sensitive and private experiences for travellers in these remote regions, there’s no compromise on authenticity or comfort.

Village walks are at the heart of any Shaki experience, enabling guests to enjoy villages and rural life in these remote regions. The Shakti Ladakh journey follows Shakti’s signature ‘village house’ concept, immersing guests in Ladakhi culture – from forts and monasteries to cooking classes and visits to local craftspeople. Situated in the far north of the sub-continent, over 3,500 metres up on the high plateau, Ladakh is referred to as ‘Little Tibet’.  With a high-altitude desert, rugged snow-capped mountains and deep turquoise lakes, it is one of the most beautiful and rugged places on earth.  Adventure abounds here too, with river rafting, cycling, and more hiking all on offer to the backdrop of this mesmerising landscape. Delicious, authentic dining aids recovery after each day, alongside a good nights’ sleep in Shakti’s spruced up village houses.

Furthermore, guests can now extend their seven-day journey by a further three. Experienced guides take guests from the village of Moncarmo, to Matho Phu (4,900m), Shang Phu (4,500m) and Chogdu Phu. Walkers can expect breath-taking views across the jagged landscape, dotted with the pretty pink blossoms of the apricot trees. Overnight, guests have the option to sleep under the stars in spacious dome tents, of course accompanied by the delicious cuisine and top-notch service for which Shakti has become renowned. When guests tire, there there’s even the option of relying on a trusty mule for support.

With no motorised transport or phone signal, Shakti offers the perfect antidote to the hectic reality of day-to-day life. Each itinerary is tailor-made so that guests can choose the distance and length of their trip. Whether travelling alone to escape the rat race or travelling with friends and family, Shakti Himalaya’s 10-day journey will satisfy even the greatest longing for the wild.

AVAILABLE FROM MAY TO END SEPTEMBER, SHAKTI LADAKH OFFER A NINE NIGHT/ TEN DAY JOURNEY THAT INCLUDES PRIVATE ACCOMMODATION IN VILLAGE HOUSES AND ALL MEALS AND BEVERAGES, COMBINED WITH THREE NIGHTS ON THE INDUS VALLEY TREK, ALL ACTIVITIES INCLUDING TWO RAFT TRIPS, THREE NIGHTS IN TENTS IF PREFERRED, AN ACCOMPANYING ENGLISH SPEAKING GUIDE, PRIVATE CHEF, SUPPORT GUIDE AND PORTERS, CAR AT DISPOSAL AND TRANSFERS BETWEEN LEH AIRPORT AND THE VILLAGE EXPERIENCE.
